In a landmark move, Pope Francis has allowed the catholic priest to bless the same-sex couple. Pope Francis, who just turned 87 on 17th December, made this landmark decision. Roman Catholic priests are allowed to bless same-sex couples under certain conditions.
The document released by the Vatican’s doctrine office reads “The request for a blessing, thus, expresses and nurtures openness to the transcendence, mercy, and closeness to God in a thousand concrete circumstances of life, which is no small thing in the world in which we live.”
The document allows the priest to allow such blessings on a case-case basis and “should not prevent or prohibit the Church’s closeness to people in every situation in which they might seek God’s help through a simple blessing”.
The Vatican’s decision marks a significant shift in the Church’s approach to same-sex couples, even with its limitations. It represents a move towards greater inclusivity and respect, paving the way for potential future changes as the Church navigates evolving societal views on LGBTQ+ issues.
